Creating a Qualification Tool

Altura’s Qualification Tool helps teams by providing structured templates to objectively assess opportunities. In this article, we’ll walk you step by step through how to use the tool.

1. Accessing the Qualification Tool

You’ll find the Qualification Tool in the Settings menu under Organization Settings.
Here you can view existing qualification templates or create a new one.

2. Creating a New Qualification Template

To create a new template:

  1. Click + Create new.

  2. Enter a name and description for your template.

  3. Optionally, set a minimum qualification threshold – the percentage a bid must achieve to be considered “qualified.”

3. Adding Categories

Next, create categories to structure your evaluation criteria:

  • Assign each category a title (and optionally a description).

  • Set a weighting for the category (the percentage it contributes to the total score).

  • All weightings combined must equal 100%.

4. Creating Questions Within a Category

Within each category, add questions to help determine whether a bid meets the set criteria.

You can choose between three question types:

  1. Open Question

    • Allows for a free-text answer.

    • Useful for qualitative assessments, e.g., explaining risks or strategic considerations.

    • No default scoring is applied, scores must be assigned manually.

  2. Scale

    • Allows you to set multiple-choice for answers.

    • The scale can be set, e.g., from 1 to 5 or 1 to 10, so you have different answers possible. You can also set it to 2 options, for Yes/No questions.

    • Each response option can be given a different weighting, so certain scores count more heavily.

  3. Custom Field

    • Lets you link a question to existing custom fields within Altura.

    • Define whether the question is required and assign a weighting (questions within a category must add up to 100%).

    • Optionally, set a minimum score.

5. Setting Weights

For scale questions and some custom field questions, you can define weights:

  • Weight (%): Determines how much the question contributes to the total category score.

⚠️ Note: All weighted questions within a category must total 100% for calculations to be accurate.

6. Saving and Implementing

Once you’ve set up all categories and questions, you can save the template as a qualification template.

This template can then be used in projects to follow a structured qualification process.
